I was given the book L’atelier de papier japonais as a birthday present a while ago (quite a long while ago now), and I really love the papers it features, which are patterned with many different decorative motifs: plants, animals, geometric patterns, spots, stripes and flowers…lots of flowers!

The creative projects in the book are mostly very simple, and consist of decorating one object or another with these papers. It is great for inspiration of little things to do (such as covering the top of a jam jar, or making a little paper envelope for chopsticks), and has gorgeous photos and full size reproductions of some of the lovely patterns. However, it is not quite so good for in-depth projects with detailed instructions. The best thing about it was being introduced to this fantastic paper!

Visiting the Adeline Klam shop is definitely worthwhile, as there are so many beautiful things! As well as the paper, there are lovely fabrics, tissue paper and a nice selection of other interesting crafty things, including lots of origami related stuff and things for making paper flowers.

Useful tip: This type of Japanese paper is also available in the Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris in the 15th – or at least it was the last time I visited. This is the Japanese foundation in Paris and holds loads of events and activities celebrating japanese culture. It also contains a little shop with loads of interesting Japanese items, including a small section of paper and origami kits.

The paper (as well as many other things in the shop) is a little on the expensive side, but is worth it as it is not only really beautiful (did I say that already?), but also great quality, which makes using it really easy and decorating things with it successful as it doesn’t go all bumpy when you glue it. I have already used it for covering books and photo albums, and decorating paper folders and wooden drawers.

So I would definitely recommended a visit. You can find Adeline Klam on 54 Boulevard Richard Lenoir, in the 11th, and is open from Monday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm. Also, check out the new book, Fleurs en papier, which is all about making paper flowers!
