Play this fun and easy sketching game with your family and friends

I have been in England visiting family for the last few weeks, and we have been playing this fun and easy sketching game. Simply draw each other to make a fun set of portraits.

It might sound overly simple, but the game is great because you can play it anywhere really easily. Also, anyone can join in, no matter their age or skill at drawing. All you need is a paper and pencil each to draw each other.

A few tips to get you started :

  • Organise so everyone draws a different person, and everyone gets drawn. For example, draw the person sitting 2 places to your left or draw the person sitting opposite (for even numbers) etc.
  • You can set a time limit if you want to keep it short and sweet, but we generally just draw until everyone is finished.
  • Everyone try to keep as still as possible while drawing to make it easier for everyone else.
  • Try doing a selfie round, by taking photos of yourselves on a smartphone or tablet, and then drawing from the photo.
  • To extend the game, once you have created a set of portraits, you can ask others to guess who drew which.

The game is meant to be taken in good humour, so be ready to laugh at your own and others’ drawings. But don’t forget to encourage others sketching skills too ! I love seeing the weird and wonderful pictures that are produced by this fun and easy sketching game and seeing different people’s drawing styles.

Here is a virtual sketchbook of all the portraits on the Paris en Rose Facebook page, which I will update as I continue my trip.
